Question; when was the last time you tried a new restaurant without a friend’s recommendation or a quick Yelp review search? After all, why would you? There’s no need to risk a bad meal with so many reputable options to choose from.
This natural tendency to look to others opinions or endorsements is part of being human. Studies designed to explore the rate at which new ideas are adopted show that only a small percentage of people are willing to take a risk on a service, product or person without an independent review.
This concept is known as social proof. As mega marketer Neal Patel notes; “Simply put, social proof is the natural human tendency to imitate the behaviors of people around us, especially those people we respect — and those are the people who exert the strongest influence over our own behavior.”
This is why endorsements, connections and testimonials are so critical to building an engaging professional brand.
